Limbrick Cup

Harold Limbrick joined the club in the early 1930s and was the club champion in 1935. He competed with varying degrees of success until he joined the Royal Marines at the start of the war, coming back to the club in 1947 when he combined his cycling with several business interests, Southgate Cycles, two or three small building firms and a motor scooter shop.

He was a big man and enjoyed his racing, although always saying never again and threatening to sell his bike to the first person to offer half a crown! He was not afraid of three wheels, as in 1954 he took the Oxford and back tricycle record with a time of 5hrs and 50 mins which still stands today.

Harold was Club President from 1951 to 1953 and vice president until 1961 when he ‘defected’ to the Severn Valley Cycle Racing Club. There is a result sheet of the 1965 T.G.Hall 25 where he recorded a time of 1hr 16mins 05secs. However he continued to support promising City riders with kit and lifts to races. He moved to Apperley when he retired and passed away in the 1980s after suffering with dementia.

In 1950 he gave a trophy to the club to be awarded to the fastest club rider over 25 miles in the calendar year.
