Five riders left King’s Square and unusually the girls outnumbered the boys. With the stiff tailwind, we made fast progress to Winchcombe, picking up an extra rider in Staverton, and observing the motorbike festival at Prescott Hill Climb on the way.

Soudley Castle Hill slowed progress, and the ride leader pretended he had to direct riders at the left turn, which gave him an excuse to get his breath back. Two riders chose to turn back after this punishing climb, leaving 4 to enjoy the ride along the tops, through the chocolate-box village of Snowshill, and the excellent drop into Broadway. A heavy shower was just starting as we reached Wickhamford, where we enjoyed excellent coffee and good cake.

The shower passed, and we continued to Elmley Castle, before turning into the stiff wind for the return. With the ride leader urging short turns, good teamwork made the wind bearable, and all returned having had an enjoyable ride.
