A gallant seven riders met at 10am for the Boxing Day ride, a mystery tour led by the Captain. The conditions were dank, veering towards damp. Not an inch of dry road was encountered, although the light rain that was experienced lasted but two miles.

The group set off north for Sandhurst, Wainlodes and Haw Bridge. Views were limited in the grey conditions but temperatures were not too bad for December. The churches at Tirley, Eldersfield (light rain here) and Staunton were noted. A deflation for Les meant he consolidated his lead in the Bruce’s Bonus competition, with a creditable 5 points. No other incidents other than extensive ponding on some roads required careful negotiation. The crossing points of the River Leadon were all passable, but for how much longer? The river was running high.

The route, ever flexible, took us towards Newent but then struck east to the Golden Valley and down to Highleadon. From here it was simple enough navigation although our Sports Rider was keen to miss the turnings. So alongside Hartpury College and a gallop on the quiet A417 to town. Finding The Pelican shut, the assembled company repaired to Angie’s on Bull Lane. Bikes safely stowed at Peppers Coffee, drinks were enjoyed in the upstairs ‘piano’ lounge. Most accommodating. 36 miles, mainly rain-free but not entirely ‘dry’.

Merry Christmas everyone, and we’ll look frorard to riding together again in the New Year.
