New ‘Event Official’ Licence with UCI ID
We are pleased to announce the introduction of a new Event Official licence.
Historically, some British Cycling event officials have been asked to pay to obtain the correct licence and credentials to perform their role. With this in mind; we announce that our key event volunteers will be offered a membership card and licence without being out of pocket for providing a service to the sport.
From now on:
- British Cycling event officials will still be entitled to a bronze membership and a provisional race licence; but their licence will now also show ‘Event Official’ and their UCI ID, as well as other specific endorsements held. The licence will carry the statement ‘Holder is a registered event official with provisional licence entitlements at rider level’.
- Event officials who wish to pay to upgrade to a full licence, to use as a cyclist in competition, will receive a licence showing ‘Full Licence’ and their UCI ID, as well as other specific endorsements held.
When will the ‘Event Official’ Licence be introduced?
The bronze membership and ‘Event Official’ Licence will be provided free of charge to those eligible roles, at their next renewal of membership. Those officials who want a full licence, to use as a cyclist in competition, will be required to pay to upgrade their membership with a full licence as required.
How could this affect you?
The scenarios below detail the minimum membership an event official should hold.
An event official who:
- does not participate as a rider – Free Race Bronze membership with provisional ‘Event Official’ licence – Cost: £0
- actively participates as a rider and does not want to race – Upgrade to Race Silver membership with provisional ‘Event Official’ licence – Total cost: £20 (Still benefiting from discount equivalent of the free bronze)
- actively participates as a rider and wants to race – Upgrade to Race Silver membership with full licence – Total cost: £58 (Still benefiting from discount equivalent of the free bronze)
The roles that will be entitled to the free Event Official licence are – Commissaires, Referees, Accredited Marshals, and NEG riders.
