If you’d like to join Mark Chick at next year’s Dunwich Dynamo (see article in the current Spokespiece), we now have details to share. There are only 15 places, and four are already taken. Read on if interested…
The Dunwich Dynamo is a special ride. Cycling 115 miles on roads from Hackney, London to Dunwich on the Suffolk coast. Through the night with a couple of thousand others. There is no recognisable organisation, no entries and it’s free. You just turn up and do the ride, ensuring you are self-sufficient.
As the article mentions, the trickiest aspect of taking part involves getting to the start in central London and then getting home from the remote finish on a Sunday morning. Transport options are very limited, so a dedicated coach for riders and bikes is a rare opportunity. For example, a Sunday train home from Darsham (nearest station to Dunwich) to Gloucester takes over seven hours, requires six changes and costs over £100, and that doesn’t include getting to the start the day before or the nightmare involved in making reservations for a bike.
To solve this, a coach has been arranged to enable riders to take part in the event which will be overnight Saturday 13th – Sunday 14th July 2019. The coach is air-conditioned with an on-board toilet and DVD player.
Itinerary / included:
• Saturday 13th July 2019: coach departs from Swindon around 13.00 (exact time TBC). Arrives in Hackney around 18.00. There will be a stop in the services reasonably close to London, allowing time for refreshments and an opportunity to change into cycling kit. Bikes get prepared (they’re with us on the same coach), before we all set off and ride the Dunwich Dynamo.
• Sunday 14th July: coach departs from Dunwich once everyone has completed the ride and grabbed a well-earned breakfast from the café on the beach if they want it. The likely departure time is between 07.00 and 10.00. The coach then returns us to Swindon, with another stop for refreshments at a suitable motorway service station.
The space in the hold for bikes severely limits the number of passengers to 15. This means each of us will be able to have a double seat and be more comfortable, especially beneficial when sleeping on the way home!
The price for the coach is £96 per person. A £50 deposit secures a place. Email Mark at firstname.lastname@example.org and he’ll send full details and a booking form.
Any questions, just ask.
