I am beginning to doubt the logic of this oft quoted phrase! Seven set off just as the rain started, but at this point, the strong SE wind was more of an issue as we set off up Stroud Road. One rider did a magnificent job taking twind to Brookthorpe, but then left our group. Another wise rider left us in Stonehouse, just before the weather turned from miserable to horrible.
With torrential rain blowing into our faces, a clap of thunder in the distance, and increasingly dark skies the call to abort was made, so we turned at Frocester to Eastington, Claypits lights and a lovely tail-wind. With shoes and gloves full of water, my only thoughts were of getting in the shower when I got home.
The only mechanical to report was somewhat unusual, in that a rider picked up an empty coke can from the road which trapped between tyre and mudguard. Luckily extracted without tyre damage.
I guess it must stop raining soon!
