Aren’t we lucky?

It was warm and pleasant, for November, as five of us departed the square on the Tempo ride, but we still moaned a bit about the slight chill as we rode through Highnam and Tiberton. The climb through Flaxley to Mitcheldean warmed us up, but the climb up Stenders had us moaning about the gradient instead. The descent of Cats Hill was so nice that we enjoyed it in silence. A quick wiz along the B road past Kearne bridge was good fun too. To avoid the traffic on Walford Road we took the back...

Fast ride out to see the parade at Wotton-Under-Edge.

Three3 strong riders left Kings Square and then we picked up a fourth at the 4 Mile House. Pacy riding through Haresfield, Stonehouse, Kings Stanley, Dursley and North Nibley got us to Wotton a little early. The parade was excellent and we were able to show our respect and gratitude on this Remembrance Day. Back on the bikes and it was fast and furious back through Charfield and Damery to pick up the A38 back to Gloucester. Strong riding from Steve Brown, James Reeves and Nathan Monk - thanks...

A Day to Remember

Remembrance Day and a short Intermediate pace loop coincided today so that the Club could be represented at the city's War Memorial for the Service of Remembrance. Accordingly a group set out on what became a rather brisk pace through Hempsted and Elmore, perhaps the downside of having an escapee from the Tempo ride, or perhaps the ride leader just having to maintain cadence on his fixie. Either way, despite claims of a rubbing rear brake, we were well ahead of schedule by the time we reached...

Cyclocross update

From Ian Cole: Just over half way through and in the top 5, mostly through good attendance at this point. Hope to maintain a top 5 place but will need some muddy and more technical courses to slow the powerful riders down. The race in Gloucester has been cancelled which is disappointing, but a few more left with Mendips this weekend at a banger racing circuit!

Which way is he going now was the cry!!

Fifteen riders left the square on a bright Sunday morning heading out to Nailsworth. The group left via Westgate Street and down to Bearlands where a left turn was taken, past the old prison and across the brightly painted crossing towards Gloucester Docks. Over the swing bridge and onto the Quays when the group turned onto the canal towpath. Passing lots of anglers, setting themselves up for a day of fishing, or topping up their tan, especially the ones sitting on the bend of the canal. Back...

Pleasantly tired legs

Well three riders set off heading into the autumn glories of the Forest of Dean, especially with the lowish golden sun showing off the tree colours to their best effect. On the riding front all was pretty uneventful apart from the ride route trying to lead us astray heading past Hartbury and again near Mitcheldean, after that we did our best to enjoy the scenery. Coffee and cake was taken at Hopewell Colliery then it was time to head for home with pleasantly tired legs. 56ml, 3700ft at about...

Stunning autumnal colours

Five riders enjoyed sparkling sunshine, stunning forest colours and great company to Hopewell Colliery this morning. As my writing skills cannot do it justice, I defer my report to Emily Bronte Fall, leaves, fall; die, flowers, away; Lengthen night and shorten day; Every leaf speaks bliss to me Fluttering from the autumn tree. I shall smile when wreaths of snow Blossom where the rose should grow; I shall sing when night’s decay Ushers in a drearier day. 58 miles, 3,700' ascent @...

The easier way home…

Once assembled post coffee break, we said goodbye to three riders: one waiting for a lift home after a failed tubeless tyre issue; one heading for the Whiteway; one heading elsewhere.  The remaining four needed to visit the old station in Cirencester, remains of. It’s in a car park and was once a wonderful piece of architecture by I.K. Brunell. Shame on those that felt a car park was better! Anyway, the platform and an element of the fine building remains. A special exhibit was being...

I blame the ride leader

A band of four set off on what would become quite a lumpy ride toward Cirencester.  The return had a few ascents too and this is where the phrase “I blame the ride leader..” was heard rumbling in the background (no worries). It started with Upton Hill (a climb of two parts) then, after the descent into Painswick it was a wiggly route through the town before a sharp descent and a long climb, on a good surface mind, up Greenhouse Lane.  The historic town of Painswick is also known as the “Queen...
