Two brave riders turned up for my ride to Charfield. We hadn’t left Gloucester before my first detour via Barton Street.
All went well, apart from Carl saying he was going to do a steady ride (yeah right). I thought “this is going to be a tough ride”. As I rode past my house in Stonehouse,I thought about my nice sofa…
Hannah and Carl flew up Frocester hill. The rest of the ride was uneventful until we got to Wootten Under Edge, where me and the Garmin decided to be unhelpful. So,I said “let’s carry along this road to Hillesley”. I started to feel uneasy about the route. The other two weren’t much help. I said “let’s go to Hawkesbury Upton, then Wickwar”. In any case we finally got to Charfield and endured a very busy cafe, though coffee and cake were good.
Carl said he knew where to go next. He didn’t. We went in the opposite direction. I said “we can go up Stinchcombe”. We said our goodbyes at Frocester. They both said they enjoyed my ride (and I didn’t bribe them)!
60 miles with just over 4000ft of climbing.
