The Judd Trophy is awarded to the winner of the club’s Best All Rounder competition. It was given to the club by Gloucester jeweller Donald Judd in 1933.The first winner of this cup was E.J.Hill.
Mr.Judd was well known in the city as a timepiece and silverware retailer. The club used to purchase their medals and engraving from him and he would proudly display the club trophies in shop window at number 8-10 Queen Street in the city centre and at number 6 Queen Street. He also had an optician’s as well as a similar business in Stroud. Queen Street was demolished in the 1970s and re-developed. It is now Queens Walk.
Mr Judd first appears in the records in 1931. There are no indications that he was actually a cyclist in the true sense of the word but he held a deep interest in the Gloucester City for nearly fifty years. He became a Vice President in 1932 and remained so until his death at the age of 90 in 1976. He was club President from 1935 to 1949 and in 1937 he acted as a time-keeper for a number of years.
