Following many mild weeks of early autumn, the first noticeably chillier start failed to deter the faithful, though more longs and threequarters were on view than of late. Setting off beneath a clear blue sky, twelve riders followed a leader who seemed keen to get warm. Clearly by the summit of Over Old Road he had achieved his goal as the group reformed to collectively enjoy the first clear panorama of the day. Following mostly familiar tracks to Hethelpit Cross and Redmarley, a Presidential deflation caused a minor delay before progress resumed.

Leaving Bromsberrow Heath and Greenway behind a brief A-road crossing led through Leddington via Lilly Hall Lane to Coffee#1, though our leader had a senior moment in finding it.

But all was well and, still numbering thirteen, the group resumed its journey together, though for only a short distance. The road surface approaching Eastnor must rate as one of Herefordshire’s oldest and worst, but no mishap befell us and it was soon almost a memory as we enjoyed the downhill to Clencher’s Mill where all crossed safely, the majority negotiating its ford alternative. However, within a few miles came the parting of our ways, most being homeward bound.

The quartet staying out then headed north, taking in The Holly Bush and its views from Castlemorton Common. Thence to Little Welland and Hook Ridge before a visit to the superbly clear view from Hill End Farm and slightly less clear cider at the Farmers Arms, for those spurning excellent Hookey.

Then home by way of Lowbands and our outbound route from Hethelpit X with Les and Tesh. It was grand to see Nev out, although on 4 wheels.
