On a grey chilly morning, with a brisk westerly aiding initial passage, a compact group of eight set out easterly chased by a late-riser. Gaining the Nut Hill turn to Fiddlers Elbow the grupo compacto continued its upward efforts until Buckholt Road saw two new bikes and their riders peel off for an early shower. Descending to Daneway as the wind veered northerly, freewheeling proved a chilling experience but the gradual incline to Sapperton remedied some of that. Passing Frampton Mansell and on through Minchinhampton the group met increasing traffic before descending The W to coffee, guided by one welcome member with local knowledge.
At noon the assembly divided. A much reduced group of three set off up the Bath Road, Kingscote bound. However, the closure of Hazelcote Lane added an unwelcome diversion, forcing some hardriding into a strengthening headwind. Repairs to the approach to Kingscote were welcome, even if incomplete. By the time the summit of Frocester hill was gained the planned lunch stop was agreed too ambitious. The Ship at Saul was a welcome warming pause for Gloucester Gold, prior to passing The Pilot as the sun set.
