Ten riders left the Square and picked up a latecomer as we sought to avoid the roadworks in Cheltenham Road. The leader, in view of the tropical temperatures forecast, plotted a route avoiding hills, something well nigh impossible in the Cotswolds. He led the riders through Shurdington and Leckhampton against an unexpected NE wind that was not at all tropical.
Through quaint Charlton Kings we emerged onto the A40, which offered a long gentle climb to Whittington. More climbing was required to pass Syreford to get to Hazelton via a long, long drag. A little more climbing to Hampnet forcing the leader to walk (there was an arrow on the map), then quickly to Northleach prison for refreshments, which were not particularly good. We were joined by Alister S and his son Toby, whom we welcomed back.
