Eleven members left Kings Square on the “slower” B ride at the earlier time of 8.30. The closed Brookfield Road bridge meant a detour but it did mean they could enjoy the roller coaster ride up Cold Pool Lane and the delights of Charlton Kings. A gentle climb of the A40 brought them to Whittington and Syreford followed by a mystery tour of Hazleton, Hampnett popping out at the Prison café. Seven continued after coffee and were soon soaking up the views of the Coln Valley all the way to Ablington. Akeman Street soon led to Ampney St Peter and Ampney Crucis as some tried to hum the “lark ascending”. The climbing was rewarded with long flat roads through the Cotswold Water Park to Somerford Keynes then Ewen, Coates and lunch at the Daneway. It was hard work climbing up the Daneway so a second stop (extra point, Captain?) was required at Miserden before returning to Gloucester. 74 miles 3954 feet @ 11.3mph
