On these long summer days October may seem distant but we only have one more committee meeting before the AGM. Accordingly it’s time to start thinking about that committee – who is in it, who will be resigning, and who wants a role in the Club’s direction for 2018? After all, there’s more to being a cycle club than being bike riders.
We’ve struggled though this year without a general secretary, hopefully without the general membership noticing too much dfference, but the lack of a single point of contact has definitely affected how we interact with and are perceived by other organisations. The work isn’t too onerous, now that membership and clothing are managed by others, so why not give it a go?
Another position that will be vacant next year is the Presidency. Toby, after several years service, has decided to stand down. Who is to replace him (Twitter account not essential!)? It could be you!
Even if you don’t feel like standing yourself, consider who amongst your fellows would be a good candidate and approach them. A personal appeal is both flattering and more difficult to refuse than an email or web posting..
Why restrict yourself to the vacancies though? All the committee positions will be up for election on October 3rd (you have put the date in your diaries, haven’t you?) so if there’s any aspect of the club’s organisation which you believe would benefit from your voice please put your name forward to a committee member or write to gcccsec@gmail.com. We’d love to have you!
