A beautiful summer evening should have encouraged entries to this traditional event on 23rd May, but alas it also provided other temptatations and the turnout was disappointing. Secretly pleased that the master of this art, our Club’s President, was amongst the DNS, we followed Colin west over the river and along the A40. We chose this, the fastest route to Churcham, to make best use of the plentiful daylight. The evening sun made the broken glass on the cycle path sparkle like diamonds on the tarmacadam!

Arriving at Bulley Lane we were welcomed by John Jarvis in the best way possible – with an invitation to join him in a beer. Perhaps Malcolm’s indulgence in one before the event was his downfall for when the final reckoning was in, after a16 mph and more difficult to judge 8 mph circuit, he was pushed down to the third spot on the podium. Alastair Goldie claimed Silver and the (metaphorical) Gold medal was awarded to Colin Edmonds:

  1. Colin Edmonds – time difference of 2 mins 6 sec
  2. Alastair Goldie – ” 3 mins 54 sec
  3. Malcolm Taylor – ” 5 mins 32 sec

A ride to the Royal Exchange at Hartpury, untroubled by concerns over speed followed. After celebrating Colin’s victory all made their way home.
