GLOUCESTER CITY CYCLING CLUB

SOCIAL COMPETITION - GIBB SHIELD

The season-long Social Competition for the GIBB Shield is a series of events held on Tuesday evenings from November to September. There is every opportunity to score points for this fine Shield. You can afford to miss two events - your best 6 count.
The counting events are all indicated on the Tuesday evening event list - check the page.
Details of this and other non-racing trophies can be found on the Touring Trophies page.

2007 / 2008 Season :

Overall after 4 competitions:

It's a ding-dong battle between the 2-T's, both having been in the lead. And AliG is not far behind. All three have organised an event so it's a level playing field (sort of).  As they say, all to play for.

4) Freewheeling, May 2008.
A lot of tactics come into play here - which bike, position of the rider, how much weight to carry, tyre pressures, etc. Suffice to say the President won by a convincing margin!  The First Lady was almost last, also by a convincing margin.

3) Map Reading  April 2008.
Toby had a disastrous event despite his degree in Geography (well, it was some time ago!) so Theo grabbed the lead - again!

The new competition kicked off with a slide show based quiz 'So you think you know Gloucester (shire)?' by the current holder of the Gibb Shield, Toby.  Ali G stormed to a win and leads the race. For now...

Speedjudging, August 2007.  Just don't use a new bike for this competition!  Claire cruised round for an easy win - even local lad Andy was unable to match her skills.

Freewheeling Competition, June 2007.  Another simple concept, much misunderstood. Anyone can do this - ride down Woolrich Hill without pedalling, the one to go the furthest wins. Simple, eh!  So how come I never win!
