GLOUCESTER CITY CYCLING CLUB

RECOMMENDED PUBLIC HOUSES

A sample of favourite hostelries from around the county and surrounding area. Generally used by club runs to refresh ourselves prior to going home. If you have some recommendations to make, please e-mail Toby with the details.

February 2006:  The Pickwick Inn at Wick, near Berkeley.  OK: good Youngs beers, only sunday roast available and this was 'cheap and cheerful'.  Rated 5/10.

April 2006: The Half-Way House, off the A417. A CAMRA-owned pub so good beer, cider in bottles only, and hearty if expensive food. Go for half portions - plenty!

The tidy bar - it really is as small as it looks!                            Ann posing out the front as Martyn emerges.

Blaisdon - Red Hart, May 2006.  Rich and Theo taking in the early summer rays.

11th June 2006: The Red Lion, Arlingham.  Good beer and range of food.  No cider to report on, however. 7/10.

The crew posing in the heat outside a fine establishment.

August 2006 : Penny Farthing, Aston Crews

On of the more disappointing pubs in the area: little choice of food on a Sunday; the beer had run out (!!!) and no cider. The bread with the soup was insufficient.  One to avoid.  Good name, though.  3 out of 10.

October 2006: The Plough, Stratton, Cirencester

AliG and Graham ready to depart.  A Sunday lunch establishment, no cider and only big meals. Arkels Ales on offer. Rating: 6/10.
