NATIONAL 50 MILE TIME TRIAL - 23/06/2002
Held on a new course around Cirencester, this was a complex
and testing course - ideal for powerful riders with good bike handling skills. The start
was on the spine road in the water parks, near Ashton Keynes. Up to cirencester on the old
A417, to Tetbury and back (the undulating stretch), down to Latton on the old road, then
up to the Burford Road junction on the new by-pass, back to Cricklade, and finally back to
the spine road. Unfortunately a turn was not marshalled for the Ladies and the early
men, so a number of riders went off course. Those who had prepared properly remained on
course. the split times indicated a much harder first leg - the second section being
around 2 to 5 minutes faster for most riders.
Well done to the Gloucester riders : Ann for 6th place (she claims 9th if other irders had
not strayed off course) with a great 2.15.40. Paul Barnard achieved 2.07.05 and
Gerry McGarr 2.10.05.
