GLOUCESTER CITY CYCLING CLUB

DAN KNIGHT TIME TRIAL RESULTS 2003

At each designated Dan Knight 10, points (10, 8, 6, 4, 3, 2 & 1) are awarded to the first 7 fastest times plus points for the 7 best improvers on their Personal Bests (PBs on the club course). If you have never raced on this course before you are given a time of 30 mins. If there are less than 7 improvers, the points go to those who have gone back the least - so all points are awarded.  The Dan Knight competition tends to favour the beginner as they should improve the most.
There are 6 Dan Knight 10s but only the best 4 count : You
MUST ride at least 4 events - or your score will not count in the final analysis.
The dates for 2003 were : 9/4 ; 7/5 ; 4/6 ; 18/6 ; 9/7 ; 13/8.

Position after 6 events :

Eleven riders completed at least 4 events to count for the prizes, The coveted Dan Knight Cup goes to Paul Barnard, having amassed enough points by the 5th round. 2nd and 3rd was close with Ian making it ahead of Phil. Well done everyone. I am particularly pleased to see Paul winning a cup - it is what he always wanted.

13/08/03, 6th and Final Event. Another hot evening with a northerly-ish wind creating a harder return leg. George stormed into first place ahead of Andy - weakened following his 12 hour the previous Sunday? 3rd and 4th were also inside 23 minutes. 3 PB's on the Club course - Phil Hogsflesh continuing to improve on his comeback season, Mike Horsman and John Flint carefully shaving a couple of seconds off their previous best times.  The big looser was Alan Daws, unable to complete the necessary 4 events to be considered for prizes. Never mind - there's always next year!

9/07/03, 5th Event. A really hot evening with a bothersome westerly wind not providing much assistance either way. A bumper field opted to contenst the event with a number of newcomers enjoying the evening.

18/06/03, 4th Event. A right nasty wind from the usual direction (SW) caused a lot of slow times. Of course the class riders hardly notice these things so were not greatly affected. Anyone feeling weak was blown away! Bad luck for Gerry (puncture) and Alan (shipped chain - twice!). It was also good to see two day members joining in the fun - hopefully Sue and Angus will join for a full year soon. If the conditions did not put them off too much!

04/06 3rd Event.   A rather windy affair, from the south-east for a change. This produced a particularly fast return leg. Three 'first timers' took part and all broke the 30 minute barrier. And with the usual 3 fast boys away on a CCRL road race the points were well distributed across other participants.

A warmish evening with a good wind from the southwest direction making for the traditional hard outward leg and a sprint home. Good for those able to force their way into the wind. Paul managed to improve on his club course best by 6 seconds! Everyone else went backwards. Taking a deserved first place meant he pocketed a perfect 20 and further cemented his lead in the competition.

A cold evening, bright but with a north-easterly wind. The climb back up Claypits was slow! Paul continues his good form to take the win, but with two 'newcomers' only manages to gain 6 Improvement points.
