Paul took a deserved win - by taking maximum points in every event he finished. Toby managed to claw second place from Derek - who only lost out through not competiting in the final events. Still - that's life!

Portway Hill Climb, 27/08/2003.   The steep and tough one - a classic hill climb though rather short. But painful. John Barns's record was under pressure with a reasonably close call as George came within 11 seconds. Still, it's a fair way to go - but looking at George's previous sttempts then on this rate of improvement next year will be interesting. PB's for Toby and Paul made it a pleasing evening in good conditions.

Roadmans Hill Climb (Cranham), 20/08/2003.   A nice evening for the first of the hill climbs. 2.22 miles of up and a little down. For a change Ed got the better of George by 2 seconds (every second counts!). John Flint continues to impress, trying everything on offer. Thanks go to the timekeepers and pusher-off.

Three Cities, 17/08/2003.   A good field for this classic event. Conditions were generally good with a bit of a breeze from the NE that got up during the morning. Dry and cloudy with sunny spells - a good temperature of around 20 - 24c. George did a great unassisted ride to come reasonably close to Barnies record (3.23.23) whilst Andy Jarvis cruised home in 2nd. Chris Washbrook took the tourist Shield in a battle with Phil Robinson - both win a Silver medal.

Club 25 mile Championship, 06/08/03.     A great evening, warm but not too hot after a boiling day. The return leg was easier, so I am told. In the battle for top slot Andy Jarvis came out on top, but only by 6 seconds. Ian Humble was in second place. Steve Best went under the hour and just beat Paul Barnard's time - by 1 measley second!  Bad luck for Paul Bridges - puncturing at the turn!

Club 10 mile Championship, 30/07/03.     An unusually unhelpful wind from the west - classic cross-wind. Otherwise dry and warm following some heavy showers earlier in the day. A minute silence was held in respect of Paul prior to the event starting. A good field of riders contested the Championship with Andy Jarvis coming out on top by just 10 seconds over last years winner George.

25 mile Time Trial, 16/07/03.   A decent evening following heavy and very hot days - but after some rain the air was good and the surface dampish. A low turnout of only 3 saw Paul Barnard beat the hour on this tough course. Was he pleased? We think so!

25 mile Time Trial, 02/07/03.   A very nice evening with little wind to bother the riders saw Paul barnard, fresh from breaking the hour on the Open 25 the day before, come oh so close with a brilliant 1.00.11. A fine effort on a hard course.

2-Up 10, 25/06/03.  An otherwise good evening was spoilt by the M5 being closed and the level of traffic on the course was therefore too great for a safe event. Thus the event was cancelled. No points!

Circuit of Haw Bridge, 11/06/03.  A good evening for a race - a slight wind from the south-west was not too much trouble. No rain either, so all the riders completed the course in fine condition!  Paul Barnard demolished the field with a great time of 47.54, the best for a couple of years. George also went under 50 minutes. The traffic lights held up a number of riders - bad luck.

Kilometer Sprint, 28/05/2003. A nice bright dry warm evening saw a good event with a number of 'new' faces. George and Steve Best drew on 1.15. As would be expected, most riders 3rd effort was slower - with the exception of Steve!

May 21st - InterClub 10   The Severn Road Club won the inaugural inter-club 10 event ahead of Gloucester City CC and Dursley RC. Weather conditions were more what you'd expect in March or April with strong south westerly winds, drizzle and poor light which almost certainly deterred many riders from coming out. Certainly only a few of the fast Dursley riders were in attendance which almost certainly what put them in last place behind us. Severn Road Club winning score was 331 to Gloucester's 167 while Dursley scored 132.  The solo win went to Severn Road Club Matt Lelliott who took four seconds out of Alan Griffiths while Dursley rider Derek Smetham was third.
Tea was served after the event whilst riders and helpers and observers (in total around 55 people!) gathered round the results board to analyse the results. A great social event - possibly there will be two next year! A winning formula.

25 mile TT, U72 (A417).   A coolish, reasonably calm evening - a breeze from the west making the outward leg harder than the return leg. What a great course!  Well done to fast man Steve Best on setting a club event record - breaking the hour on a sporting course. Also to Paul Barnard who also beat the previous best time by around 30 seconds.

Circuit of Haw Bridge.  30/04/03.   A windy but dry evening saw a nice fast leg on the A38, more difficult on the Haw Bridge section, and a particularly tough Corse Lawn leg. Unusually there were two non-finishers - Gerald with a puncture near Twigworth and Paul suffering from a broken chain on the ascent of Maisemore hill.

23/04 10 mile two-up.  Not a bad evening with a good temperature but a niggling wind from the noteh-east. this made for a reasonably fast outwards leg and a more troublesome return. Another dry evening, too. Points are allocated to the 2-up pairs, then the solos. A grand battle for second spot with the Jarvis / Unsworth pairing taking the honours by a measley 5 seconds from Toby and Neil (mudguards and rack) - but every second counts!

16/04 10 mile TT.  Fantastic weather - warm and reasonably calm (a slight cross-wind from the east). Almost perfect conditions. This was reflected in the times with many PB's on the club course - very pleasing! It is also good to see a number of non-club riders turning up - keep coming, folks!
